VARIOUS ARTISTS - 'Teenage Shutdown - I'm No Count' LP
[DW CRTS04] All of the snarling garage punk stompers on Teenage Shutdown: I'm a No-Count, subtitled "19 Top Teen Punk Stomp Classics," have previously appeared elsewhere on various-artist compilations. This time, however, the sound quality is mostly superb, with minimal EQing. The transfers were made by Crypt Records' honcho, Tim Warren, using something called a CEDAR system, which reportedly keeps the warmth of the original analog sound of the singles, many of them coming from the colossal 45 rpm collection of Mike "Moptop" Markesich. Things start off here with "Bad Woman" by Fallen Angels, a track dating back to 1970, which was a little late in the day for this type of garage churner. As with all that follows, it's primal, raw, screamin' garage rock that doesn't let up. San Antonio, TX's the Outcasts' contribution, the intense "1523 Blair," may have later inspired the space rock group of the same name who released recordings in the '90s that were later compiled for the Voxx label by Spacemen 3's Sonic Boom. The title track, by Ty Wagner With the Scotchmen, falls about midway in the sequence. According to the liner notes, "I'm a No-Count"'s lead singer was from Santa Ana, CA. "I'm a Nothing" by the Magic Plants (from New York) featured a band lineup with a couple of members who later joined the Left Banke. "It's Trash" by the Cave Men (from Key West, FL) is one of the more experimental tracks here, dating back to July 1966, with blistering psych-fuzz guitar and echo-laden vocals. This band later changed their name to the 4th Generation. As with most of the remaining Teenage Shutdown collections, this one is somewhat hit and miss, but overall, it's a solid collection of snarling, rabid garage punk from the mid-'60s. Saber más14,00 €
